Apple Vs Sony

Can it be? An iPad killer? We opinion the iPad was supposed to replace every single electronic gismo in the universe! But some citizen are saying Sony is giving Apple products mostly untouchable, creating a product with only Apps is not the way to beat Goliath. Its Apps do play music, allow you to access Facebook, watch Netflix movies and some other neat things. However, if there's not an app for that, you can't do it. As far as the Sony Dash is concerned, the Apple iPad is alive and well. Round one winner? iPad by Ko.

Round two-iPad vs Sony Reader Daily Edition. The Daily Edition cannot browse the web so let's collate the two as strictly e-readers. The iPad uses iBooks but it also has a Kindle App. The Daily Edition works with Sony's ebook store and your local libraries. You can "check-out" e-books from a library for free, you only need a library card. The iPad does not have any aid like this yet, but it could theoretically get an App. Both (in fact, all e-readers should be able to) can get free books straight through Google from the social domain.

The iPad has a color screen, but this positively works against it for book reading. There are many complaints about an intense glare, making it impossible to read in direct sunlight. Although there are a few Sony reviewers who complain about a glare as well.

Finally, let's look at what you get for your dollar because whether way you're dropping a few...hundred. With the basic iPad you get, well, the WiFi enabled iPad. You have to pay more to get the 3G version and then you'd have to pay a monthly fee. You also get a dock connector to Usb cable and charger. Sony gives you the Reader, free 3G, a Usb cable, stylus, rechargeable battery pack, soft cover, charger and zippered case. A dinky more bang for those bucks.

Round two winner? It's a draw and here's our suggestion. Whatever shopping for an e-reader who already has a netbook should go with Sony's Reader Daily Edition. You can save some money and get a few extras. However, if you are in the market for a netbook and like the idea of an e-reader, then iPad all the way.
